Grand Champion at State Fair

Swiss Alp-Washington Country Schools Reunite

The 19th Swiss Alp School Reunion and the 14th Washington School Reunion were held Thursday, Oct. 9 at the Oakridge
Restaurant in Schulenburg. Registration began at 11 a.m. Carolyn “Graeter” Tobola welcomed everyone. A total of 14 students and six guests attended. Six students were from Swiss Alp School and eight students were from Washington
school.

More Recognition for Shakespeare at Winedale

University of Texas Professor Emeritus Jim (Doc) Ayres and his successor at Shakespeare at Winedale, Professor James Loehlin, were honored with their second Shakespearean awards this year on Sept. 27 at the American Shakespeare Center’s Blackfriars Theater in Staunton, Virginia. The Burbage Award, named for James Burbage, who built the first theater in London in 1576 called appropriately, “The Theater,” is made annually by the Center, recognizing extraordinary accomplishment in performing Shakespeare’s plays

LHS Class of 1964 Holds 50th Reunion

The La Grange High School Class of 1964 met for their 50th class reunion on Aug. 16 at 4 p.m. at the Rutersville Hermann  Sons Lodge Hall. Forty-two classmates were in attendance along with thirty spouses. The evening was spent with getting reacquainted, reminiscing, and just catching up on the last 50 years while enjoying snacks and drinks and a barbecue dinner

Vickie Elizabeth Grobe and Joshua Adam Melnar were united in marriage on June 21, 2014 at Schneider Hall in Columbus.
The bride is the daughter of Richard and Rita Grobe of Columbus and the granddaughter of the late Victor and Agnes
Struve of La Grange and the late George and Maxine Grobe of Blanco.

45th Annual Schellberg Family Reunion Held

The 45th get together of the descendants of Tobias and Emma Schellberg was held on Oct. 5 in the private dining room of  Riverside Café in La Grange. Among the family members were guests that included Pastor Willie and Lilly Rotter, Tim Lode  and Penny Ackermann. Pastor Rotter asked the blessing after which all enjoyed a delicious meal.

Local Facility Receives Rescue Training

On Saturday, Oct. 4, ALPHA Search and Recovery provided Monument Hill Rehabilitation and Nursing Center an informative “reenactment” drill focused on locating a missing person. This drill allowed center staff to be trained, by search and rescue professionals, on how to strategically find a missing individual. Although not too common, the possibility of a nursing facility
resident getting lost remains a possibility.

LGISD Celebrates National School Lunch Week

National School Lunch Week aims to get kids excited about healthy foods and physical exercise. To recognize the National School Lunch Program and the 30 million children it serves everyday, La Grange ISD schools will recognize National School Lunch Week from October 13 -17. The theme “ Get in the Game with School Lunch” will feature events and activities that promote the importance of balancing healthy eating with physical activities and exercise.
