Vanita J. (Calley) Cain

Vanita J. (Calley) Cain, 75, of Bellaire, died Thursday, April 24, 2014 at East Houston Regional Medical Center in  Houston. Vanita was born in San Saba  County on Jan. 1, 1939, the daughter of Herschel and Mildred (Perry) Calley.
She is survived by daughter, Dana Petersen and husband, Mark of Fort Dodge, Iowa; brother, L.J. Calley of Fayetteville; 
sister, Vivian Hill of Pasadena; one granddaughter, Cody Brock and husband, Ashley of Katy; one great-grandson, Corbin Brock of Katy and numerous loving nephews and nieces. Graveside Services will be held at Plum Grove Cemetery, in Plum at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2014. Family and friends can view and sign the guestbook online at www.lagrangefunerals. Carole Sue Engstrom

Carole Sue Engstrom, 75, died April 24, 2014. She was born Oct. 17, 1938 in Galveston. She is survived by her son,
Rudy Engstrom, her daughter, Emily Engstrom, and grandchildren Danielle Engstrom, Josh Engstrom, Dylon Engstrom, and Shane Dial. A memorial service was held at 12:30 p.m., Sunday, April 27, 2014 at the First Christian Church of Brenham. The Rev. Gary Jeter officiated. Interment took place at 11 a..m., Monday, April 28, 2014 at Galveston Memorial

Mark A. Chapman

Mark A. Chapman died on April 18, 2014 at his home in Cat Spring. He was born on Jan. 18, 1943, in Clay Center, Kan., the son of Leo and Irene (McCully) Chapman. He grew up near Broughton, a small town 30 miles northwest of Manhattan, home of Kansas State University (KSU) where Mark earned bachelor s degrees in 1965 in history and political science. As a student, he was involved in Army ROTC, Acacia fraternity, and athletics, including football and track.  After earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence at the University of Texas, Mark spent two years as a U.S. Army Signal Core officer stationed in Thailand. Trenda Kaye (Thrasher) James

Trenda Kaye (Thrasher) James, 55, of La Grange, died Thursday, April 17, 2014 in Horseshoe Bay. Trenda was born in Fort Worth on Oct. 30, 1958, the daughter of Shirley Pugh Thrasher and the late Robert “Bob” R. Thrasher. She married Donald James on June 11, 1979 in San Angelo.  Trenda was the owner of Texas Rural Health Services, servicing the mentally challenged adult community of Lee and Fayette Counties. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of La Grange. Trenda had a great love for  animals, inherited from her dad, from a small age. She especially had a fondness for small dogs, and had a constant companion, Kye, a tiny white maltese that she carried in her purse. She especially enjoyed cookouts with friends and family at the farm and at the lake. She and her extended family had many frequent and fun trips “floating” the Frio, Comal and Guadalupe River. Music has also always been a big part of her life.
