Donald Morris Berger

Donald Morris Berger, 83, died peacefully at his home in Houston on June 12, 2014. He was born on Sept. 10, 1930, at his home in the Heights to Emil and Vera Heller Berger. He attended All Saints Catholic School in the Heights until his family moved to Ammannsville in 1941. He attended school in La Grange and graduated from high school in Schulenburg. While in high school, he met the love of his life, Lillian Belota. Lillian and Don were married on Aug. 6, 1951. From January 1952 to1954, he served in the Army during the Korean War, but was stationed in Germany. He played football and threw the discus during his service. After completing his military duty, Don and Lillian continued to work on the family farm in Ammannsville. They moved to Houston in 1956 where he worked for Cameron Ironworks and Snappy Snack. He then became a pioneer in the vending and catering industry by starting his own company, Texas Automatic Foods in 1959.

Lucille Ruby Bohot Williams

Lucille Ruby Bohot Williams, 89, of Los Angeles, Calif. died May 12, 2014 in Valencia, Calif. Lucille was born Oct. 3, 1924. She was a graduate of La Grange High School and  worked at Camp Swift Army Base in Texas during WWII and Universal Match Co., in St. Louis, Mo. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America in Los Angeles, Calif., The Lady Elks and Westchester Womens Club, and a member of Saint Jerome Catholic Church. She is survived by three sons, four daughters, 11 grand children and 6 great-grandchildren. She is preceeded in death by her parents, Alwin Bohot and Louis Bohot Zombro of Giddings and La Grange and her husband James Benjamin Williams of Los Angeles, Calif. Funeral and burial services were held on May 19, 2014 at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, Calif. The Father Joseph Donovan and priest Mary Knoll officiated. Holy Cross Mortuary and Cemetery in California was in charge of arrangements.

Ronnie Joseph Kapel

Ronnie Joseph Kapel, 70, of Fayetteville, died Saturday, June 7, 2014 at his residence. Ronnie was born in Galveston on June 9, 1943, the son of Henry Joseph and Alice Helen (Kollaja) Kapel. He married Donna Wright on Aug. 20, 1982  in Houston. Ronnie enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time tinkering in his workshop. He is survived by wife, Donna Kapel of Fayetteville; three daughters: Linda Bretting and husband, Warren of Weimar;  Donna Vanicek of Breckenridge; Carol Colbert of Corpus Christi; one son, Bryan Kapel and wife, Jackie of Corpus Christi; two sisters: Virginia Honeycutt of Cypress, and Sharon Simek of La Grange; grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandsons; Scottie Ognoski and Ryan Joseph Charles Kapel. Memorial Services will be held at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in La Grange at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2014.

Albina Marie (Zbranek) Huebel

Albina Marie (Zbranek) Huebel, 106, of La Grange, died Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Monument Hill Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in La Grange. Albina was born in La Grange on Nov. 1, 1907, the daughter of Frank and Annie (Pisklak) Zbranek. She married Albert Ignac Huebel, Sr. on July 28, 1930. She worked for both Carter Motel and Weikel’s Lunch & Soda in La Grange. Albina was a faithful Catholic and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a member of the Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Annunciation No. 1962.

Otis Wagner

Funeral services for Otis Wagner, 84, of Swiss Alp were held at Swiss Alp Evangelical Lutheran Church in Swiss Alp on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 11 a.m. Visitation was held on Wednesday, May 21 at 5 p.m. with the American Legion memorial services at 6:30 p.m. Interement followed in the Swiss Alp Lutheran Cemetery in Swiss Alp. Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Wagner of Swiss Alp; daughters, Betty Klesel of Schulenburg, Beverly Machac and husband Bennie of Sheridan, Barbara Lesikar and husband Stanley of Schulenburg, Beck Gonzales of Raton, N.M., Bethany Belota and husband Clement of Garwood, and Brittany Wagner of Swiss Alp; sons, Bill Wagner and wife Terri of La Grange, Byron Wagner and wife Dusty of Swiss Alp, Bruce Wagner and wife Dana of Houston, and Brandon Wagner of Columbus; 26 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home in Schulenburg was in charge of arrangements.
