Paul Henry (Sonny) Zbranek

Paul Henry (Sonny) Zbranek, 76, of La Grange, died at his home on Jan. 29, 2014. Paul was born on Sept. 14, 1937 in Holman, the son of Justin Zbranek and Ethlynn Hengst Zbranek. He was a retired painter, a member of St. Francis
Cabrini Catholic Church in Houston and the Men’s Club of St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church. He was a sports fanatic
 who loved the outdoors and fishing with his grandkids. He is survived by two sons; Paul Zbranek, II and fiancée Carol Knudson of Spring and Jeremy Zbranek of Shoreacres; two daughters, Cynthia Machala and husband Tim of La Grange

Frank Richard Kruppa

Frank Richard Kruppa, 86, of La Grange died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange. Frank was born in Holman, Dec. 7, 1927, the son of Richard Kruppa and Martha (Adamcik) Kruppa. He married Georgia Vavra on June 20, 1949 in Dubina. Frank graduated from La Grange High School in 1945. Frank was then drafted into the Army and was inducted on March 18, 1946. While in the Army, Frank received a World War II Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal. He also served in Korea with Headquarters Company, 657th Engineer Survey Battalion, Korea. He worked to maintain supplies and equipment for headquarters company. He was discharged from the Army on March 28, 1947 at Camp Beale, California. After his Army career, Frank was employed by Brasher Motor Company in La Grange as a Car Salesman. Pearl LaVerne Kirschke

Pearl LaVerne Kirschke, 84, of La Grange died peacefully in her sleep on Jan. 27, 2014 at Monument Hill Nursing Home.
She was born on June 30, 1929 in Columbus to Lester Dee Dennis and Rosa Pearl (Waldrip) Dennis. She attended
school in Columbus. She married Edgar Wanja of Columbus and they had a daughter, Sandra Kay Wanja in 1947. She later married William H. Kleimann “Bill” of Columbus .on May 10, 1952, with whom she had two children, Brenda Lou and Lester William. After Bill’s death, she married Wilbert Lee (W.L.) Kirschke on Sept. 10, 1982. She held an  assortment of jobs throughout her lifetime. Perline S. Jackson

Perline S. Jackson, 91, of La Grange died Jan. 22, 2014 at her residence. She was born on July 27, 1922 in Cedar Lane to Virgie (Fields) and Tom Spiller. She married James C. Jackson, Jr. in 1941 in Bay City. He died on Dec. 11, 2002. Pearline worked as a beautician. She is survived by daughter, Gwendolyn Orise of Dallas; son, Johnathan Jackson and wife Ella of Katy; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one daughter and one grandson. Funeral services were held at Second Baptist Church in La Grange at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30. The Rev. Robert Waddle officiated. Interement followed in the La Grange City Cemetery. Tommy E. Taylor Funeral Home in La Grange was in charge of arrangements.

Josefa Orellana Kennedy

Josefa Orellana Kennedy, 99, of Flatonia died Jan. 21, 2014. Josefa “Grandma” was born Oct. 12, 1914 in Honduras,
C.A. In Grandma’s early years she was a nanny for the Consulate of Honduras to the United States, leading her into many years of caregiving, in addition to enjoying traveling, reading and reciting poetry. Those who knew Grandma, (as most knew her, even her peers), would likely say she was a sweet spirited lady. Grandma led a full life with many journeys, and a trail of great memories and love to fill the hearts of many. She is survived by brothers, Juan Angel  Orellana Reyes and Jose Orellana Reyes; sisters, Margarita Orellana Elvir and Angela Orellana Reyes; daughters,

Adolph J. Kasmiersky

Adolph J. Kasmiersky, 86, of La Grange died Jan. 23, 2014 at St. Mark’s Medical Center. Adolph was born in Fayetteville 
on March 17, 1927, the son of Adolf and Mary (Minarcik) Kasmiersky. He married Loraine Orsak on Nov. 19, 1949 in Houston. He was in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. Adolph was a locksmith for 40 years. He is survived by his wife of 64 years; two sisters-in-law: Mary Kasmiersky of Fayetteville and Dottie Kasmiersky of Houston; numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews; and great-great nieces and great-great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Claudie Kalmus and Evelyn Jurajda; three brothers: Joe Kasmiersky, who died during World War II; and Leonard and Robert Kasmiersky; two nephews: Walter Kalmus, Jr. and Sylvan Kalmus.

Dorothy Jane Stuart Giese, 86, of San Marcos died Jan. 17, 2014. A native of Houston, she attended Southwestern University in Georgetown and the University of Houston. She married Leerie Roy Giese in 1951 and spent most of her life in Angleton, La Grange and the family’s farm in Round Top. She and her husband moved to San Marcos in 2012. She is survived by her husband, Leerie Giese of San Marcos, daughter, Nevin Cunningham and husband Bill of San Marcos; her daughter, Stephanie Yoes and husband Charles of Dickinson; grandchildren Andrew Cunningham, Lauren Yoes, and Erin Stuart Swanson and husband Romey. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren Hunter Evan Davidson,

Ella Mae Logan

Ella Mae Logan, 88, of Austin died Jan. 15, 2014 at North Austin Medical Center. She was born Nov. 29, 1925 in La Grange to Christina (Beasley) and Roy Rivers. She was employed as a PRN. She is survived by daughter, Wanda F. Logan-Jones of Austin; sisters, Lovie Lee Scott of La Grange, Ruby Lee Johnson of Houston, and Herman Preston of California; three grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She was preceeded in death by her husband, parents, two nieces and one nephew. Funeral services were held at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in La Grange at 2 p.m.
on Saturday, Jan. 25. The Rev. Byron Green officiated. Burial followed in the Little Bethel Church Cemetery in La Grange. Tommy E. Taylor Funeral Home in La Grange was in charge of arrangements.

Christopher A. Johnston, 64, husband of Gayle Johnston, died Jan. 24, 2014 at his residence. A Memorial Service is
scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel, in Brenham. Chris was born March 23, 1949 in Palo Alto, Calif. to David Christopher and Cynthia (Bleifuss) Johnston. He obtained a BBA from the University of Texas, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha and became a licensed CPA. He was President/CEO of L.F.  Manufacturing, Inc. Having attained the rank of Eagle Scout during his youth, his stewardship of the land, his passion for animals and his storytelling skills served him well later as a Scoutmaster. Chris is survived by his wife, Gayle Patterson Johnston; daughter, Lisa Johnston Leese
