Lillian M. (Klimek) Sklar

Lillian M. (Klimek) Sklar, 91, of Fayetteville died Friday,  Dec. 26, 2014 at Monument Hill Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in La Grange. Lillian was born in Fayetteville on May 17, 1923, the daughter of Rudolph and Mathilda (Goerig) Klimek. She married Edward S. Sklar on Dec. 16, 1943 in Bellville. illian was a seamstress and made a lot of her children’s clothing. She also loved quilting and made over 400 quilts. She loved gardening and gave much of her produce from the garden to many friends and family  nd also to Father Ben Mazurkiewicz. Lillian’s husband, Edward, took credit for making their famous homemade wine but everyone knew it was actually Lillian’s recipe. One of her many attributes was knowing how to “stretch a penny”. Lillian was very proud of her three sons who spent a combined total of 55 years in the U.S. Navy along with her grandson, Timothy, who has spent three years in the Navy as well. Lillian was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic  Church.

Harvey Lee Kesterson

Harvey Lee Kesterson, 66, of Hockley died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014 at Hermann Memorial Medical Center in Houston. Harvey was born in Kilgore on Aug. 18, 1948, the son of Emory and Neva (Dykes) Kesterson. He married Patti Srubar on Aug. 11, 1984. He is survived by his wife, Patti, of 30 years; son, Garrett Kesterson and wife, Trisha, of Brenham; four sisters-in-law: Rose Lastovica of Smithville; Jean Lastovica and husband, Stanley, of Smithville; Linda Trilicek and husband, Benny, of Fayetteville; Grace Pulkrabek of Plum; two brothers-in-law: Frankie Srubar and wife, Linda, of Round Top; Mark Srubar of Giddings; three grandchildren: Kayla, Alexandra and Elizabeth Kesterson; aunt, Betty Kesterson of Longview; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emory and NevaKesterson. Visitation was held on Friday, Dec. 26, 2014 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home.

Tina Yvonne Friemel

Tina Yvonne Friemel, 54 of Benton, Ark. died Dec. 23, 2014. She was born March 1, 1960 in San Diego, Calif. to James Frank and Sharon Colby Hill. She enjoyed scrapbooking, reading and crafts. Tina was heavily involved in church activities  or her entire life. She  was a member of Calvary Nazarene Church in Little Rock for twenty-nine years where she was a children’s Sunday School Teacher and played the piano. She is survived by her parents and her husband David of thirty-two years; one daughter Stephanie of Benton, Ark.; one son, Jared (Summer) of Bauxite, Ark.; sisters, Tammie (Buddy) Ayers of Chattanooga, Tenn. and Teresa (Mark) Hinton of Benton, Ark.; along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and church family. She has many relatives in this area. Tina was preceded in death by one sister, Tonya Baldwin. A celebration of life was held on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014 10 a.m. at Dial and Dudley Funeral Home in Bryant, Ark. Bro. Rodney Shanner officiated.

Louis Lee Niesner

Louis Lee Niesner, 95, of Muldoon died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2014 in a Halletsville medical center. Louis was born Jan. 7, 1919 in Muldoon to Agnes Mary Bubenk and Rudolph Niesner. Louis served his country during WWII in the US Army. He married Gladys Gebert on Aug. 11, 1940 in their home and they were married for over 74 years. He was a farmer, a maitenance man, and drove a school bus for  the Flatonia School System for 36 years. Louis loved gardening, hunting, farming, woodworking, and crafting. He is survived by his wife, Gladys of Freyburg; four sons,  Gene Niesner and his wife Margie of Austin, James Niesner of Freyburg, Dennis Niesner and his wife Cynthia of Houston and Billy Niesner of Freyburg. Louis was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Dinah Niesner; five sisters, Mary, Agnes, and Annie Niesner, Emily Gaston and Minnie Hansman; and three brothers, Rudolph, Charlie, and Joe Niesner. Visitation was held Friday, Dec. 26, 2014 from 6 until 9 p.m.

Margaret Marie (Wold) Harrison

Margaret Marie (Wold) Harrison, 87, of La Grange died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014 at Monument Hill Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in La Grange. Margaret was born in South Elgin, Ill. on May 13, 1927, the daughter of Joseph and Marie (Rhymes) Wold. She married William Henry Harrison on Oct. 15, 1947. Margaret worked as a Director of Food Service for the medical industry. She was a member of the South Elgin Community United Methodist Church in South Elgin, Ill. She is survived by two daughters: Marcia Bennett of La Grange; Maureen Wildy and husband, Colin, of Arvada, Colo.; brother, Thomas Wold and wife, Imogene, of Florida; grandchildren: Zachary William and Andrew Michael Bennett. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Harrison; son, Michael William Harrison; and two brothers, Joseph and John Wold. Visitation was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 29, 2014 at South Elgin Community United Methodist Church, 400 W. Spring St., South Elgin, Ill.

Elaura Etha (Kasparek) Neumann

Elaura Etha (Kasparek) Neumann, 88, of Shelby died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2014 at St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange. Elaura was born in Austin County on Sept. 25, 1926, the daughter of Gus and Irene (Reichelt) Kasparek. She was confirmed  n Sept. 8, 1940 in Shelby. She married Milton Neumann on Nov. 7, 1944 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Warrenton. During the early years of their marriage, Elaura and her husband, Milton, worked for the war effort in Houston. Elaura and Milton were inseparable and did everything together during their 59 years of married life. They owned and operated a dairy farm and cattle ranch for many years. Both Elaura and Milton were founding members of the Shelby Volunteer Fire Department. Elaura was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Women of the Church, the Women of the Church quilting group and was a wonderful gardener. She never met a stranger and enjoyed being around family and friends.

Bernice Allene (Brade) Kalbas

Bernice Allene (Brade)   Kalbas, 82, of Serbin died Wednesday, December 24, 2014 in La Grange. Bernice Allene (Brade) Kalbas was born on Sept. 3, 1932 in Lincoln to Herman Ernst Brade and Alma Emilie (Winkler) Brade. On Nov. 11, 1951, Bernice married Carl Kalbas. Bernice is survived by her children, James and Kathy Kalbas of Serbin, John and  Lois Kalbas of Paige, Larry and Judy Kalbas of Paige, Jane and Sherwin Siegmund of Serbin and Leroy and Sandra Kalbas of Northrup; twelve grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothersin- law, Gladys abd Ralph Pitts of Giddings and Ernie and Rueben Melcher of Rockdale; two brothers, Monroe Brade of Fedor and Eldor Brade of Fedor as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings was in charge
of arrangements.

Jerry Dean Sain

Jerry Dean Sain, Sr. died while surrounded by his family, the morning of Dec. 25, 2014 at his home in Ledbetter following
a lengthy battle with cancer. Jerry was born on Feb. 15, 1952 in La Grange to Charlie and June (Garcia) Sain. He graduated from Carroll High School in Corpus Christi and served in the United States Air Force from July 14, 1972 until May 4, 1976. Jerry married Deborah Roschetzky on April 7, 1984 in Corpus Christi. He was a self-employed ranchman and was one of the best fence builders in the area. When he wasn’t working, Jerry enjoyed bowling, fishing, watching the Dallas Cowboys and spending time with his family.  Funeral services for Jerry Sain Sr., 62 of Ledbetter were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec.
29, 2014 at the Giddings City Cemetery in Giddings. Tim  Pitts officiated. Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings was in charge of arrangements.

Phyllis Rae (Measles) Russell

Phyllis Rae (Measles) Russell, 90, of Ft. Worth died Friday, Dec. 26, 2014 in La Grange. Phyllis was born in Denison on Sept. 12, 1924, the daughter of Bill and Vinnie Blanche (Berry) Measles. Phyllis married Johnny Covert Russell on July 5, 1942. She is survived by three daughters: Juanet Copeland of La Grange; Annette Krone and husband, Greg, of Weatherford; Vennette New and husband, Bob, of Burleson; brother, Gerald Measles and wife, Sue, of Ft. Worth; eight grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and numerous other family members that were very precious to her. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Johnny Russell; and brother, Billy Measles. Graveside services will be held at Bethesda Cemetery in Burleson at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015 with Pastor Lou Tiscione officiating. Vasek

Funeral services for Bernice Leona Havrda Vasek, 85, of Schulenburg, were held Monday, Dec. 15, 2014 at 2 p.m. at St. John Catholic Church in St. John, Texas. Interment was in the St. John Catholic Cemetery. She died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014. Bernice was born on Aug. 28, 1929 in Velehrad to Joe and Carrie Krause Havrda. She graduated from St. John Parochial School. She married George Vasek on July 9, 1946. Survivors include: two daughters, Caroline Mazoch and fiance Jimmy Sumbera of La Grange, and Theresa Elzoery and husband Moody of Pasadena; three sisters, Janet Vyvlecka of Davis, Calif., Patsy Miksch and husband Leroy of Cypress, and Shirley Kirks and husband Steve of Red Rock; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband George; daughter Barbara; one grandson and three brothers. Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home in Schulenburg was in charge of arrangements.
