Barbara Jean (Bobbie) White

Barbara Jean (Bobbie) White, 88 of Dubina, died Monday June 22, 2015 at her residence.
Bobbie was born on July 2, 1926 in Burbank, Calif., to Frederick Charles Wilson and Evalyn Williams Wilson. She married Donald Richard White on July 3, 1948 in Glendale, Calif. She was a member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church in Houston, a member of the choir, PEO, Steven Ministries and the Prayer Shawl Ministry. She was a homemaker and enjoyed knitting and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known by all as such a “sweet lady”.

Edward York Kaiser

Edward York Kaiser, 87, of La Grange, died Friday June 12, 2015. He was born June 19, 1927 in Winchester to Fred and Verna (Hubbard) Kaiser. Edward was baptized into the Christian faith on June 27,1927, at St. Michael’s Lutheran Churn in Winchester. He confessed his faith at his confirmation on April 6, 1941. His confirmation verse was Phil 1:2. Edward served in the army during WWII with a tour to Germany. He was honored with the Victory Medal. He was active in his church congregation until he retired. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and taking trips to Branson to enjoy the different shows, especially around Christmas time. He worked hard around the farm and loved smoking his famous briskets.

Elizabeth Rachel “Bettye” (Drachenberg) Zatopek, 92, of La Grange, died on Saturday, June 13, 2015, at Jefferson Place Assisted Living in La Grange. Visitation will be at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home in La Grange on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Famil y will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. A memorial service is set for Saturday, July 11, 2015, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in La Grange. In a private family service, she will be buried beside her husband in the Zatopek family plot in the Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Columbus. She was born Elizabeth Rachel Drachenberg, the fifth of seven children to Julius Christian and Glotilda (Walzel) Drachenberg on Aug. 21, 1922, on the family farm in the Beasley-Tavener area of Fort Bend County. She attended the Tavener School and Richmond High School and graduated from East Bernard High School. She attended Southwestern Business University. She married Lt. Leland Frank Zatopek of Columbus on Sept.

Clarence Krenek

Clarence Krenek, 84 of Rockdale, died Monday, June 15, 2015 at his home in Rockdale. Clarence Krenek was born Nov. 20, 1930 in Fayetteville to Willie and Christina (Orsak) Krenek. He attended school in Hawcreek and Willowspring schools. On May 5, 1952 he and Lillian Cmajdalka were married in Fayetteville. Then June of that same year he entered the U.S. Army serving until March of 1954. His rank was Sergeant; he served in the Korean Conflict receiving the Purple Heart. Mass was recited at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Fayetteville at 3 p.m. Rev. Ramon Frayna and Deacon Gus Coelho will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Joseph Catholic Church, P.O. Box 548, Rockdale, Texas 76567. Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale was in charge of arrangements.

Marion Frances

Marion Frances (Vavra) Cernota, 76, of Houston (formerly of Fayetteville), died Saturday, June 13, 2015. Marion was born in Brenham on July 14, 1938, the daughter of Jerome and Albina (Mikeska) Vavra. She married Henry Cernota, Jr. on Nov. 12, 1956 in Houston. She loved going to church, attending church picnics, polka dancing, crossword puzzles and bingo. She was a gentle and kind woman throughout her life. She dearly loved her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Houston, Texas. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Henry Cernota, Jr.; four sons: Raymond Cernota and wife, Ulai, of Houston, David Cernota of Houston, Thomas Cernota and wife, Sandy, of Katy, and Donald Cernota; daughter, Sandra Briones and husband, Roger, of La Grange; sister, Lillie Mae Brightwell of Fayetteville; aunt, Sylvia Vavra of Houston; eight grandchildren; and numerous extended family and friends.

Joseph John Stibora III

Joseph John Stibora III died June 12, 2015, with his family present. He was born to Adella Cook and Joe Stibora on Aug. 26, 1930, on a farm near Ellinger. He received his primary and secondary education at the Ellinger Public School in Ellinger and at La Grange High School in La Grange. Postsecondary education occurred at Southwestern Business University and the University of Houston College of Business Administration in Houston. After being drafted into the US Army at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio on March 15, 1951, to serve his two year obligation, he was assigned to Fort Bliss Army Base in El Paso for basic and advanced basic training with an eventual assignment to Headquarters Battalion, 1st Guide Missile Group, Personnel Office until his honorable discharge as Sergeant (E- 5) on March 14, 1953.

Edward “Eddie” Willie Zoch

Edward “Eddie” Willie Zoch, 84, of Giddings and formerly of Sugar Land, died June 8, 2015 in Giddings. He was born on Aug. 12, 1930 in Winchester to Wilham “Willie” and Amanda (Mitsche) Zoch. Eddie honorably served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a machinist for W.K.M. for 30 years, retiring in 1995. Funeral services for Eddie Zoch, 84 of Giddings, were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 13,2015 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings with Rev. Robert Tiner officiating. Graveside services with military honors were held at 3 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg with Rev. Ken Sinclair officiating. Survivors include son, Glenn Ray Zoch; daughter, Carol Diane Russell and husband, Wayne; sisters, Eleanor Berger and husband, Marvin, Evelyn Kaiser and husband, Elton, and Madeline Faske and husband, Leroy; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

Jerry “Gerald” Lentz

Jerry “Gerald” Lentz was born on Sept. 11, 1925 in Electra, Texas and grew up riding horses in the ranching communities surrounding Vernon. Shemoved to Houston in 1942. She and her husband, Edwin, retired to their farm in Round Top in 1985, restored a historic house and ran a successful bed and breakfast. In 2004, they moved to La Grange where Edwin passed away in 2010. Jerry was a devoted homemaker, who loved cooking, reading, sewing, quilting, gardening and especially growing roses. She was always very proud of her home and family. She enjoyed spending time on Festival Hill where she was an active volunteer and rarely missed hearing James Dick perform. A family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Round Top Festival Institute, Library Fund, P. O. Box 89, Round Top, Texas 78954.
