Patricia Marion (Crenshaw) Henderson

Patricia Marion (Crenshaw) Henderson, 75, of Brenham died after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease on Friday, Jan. 23, 2015 at Monument Hill Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in La Grange. Patricia was born in Texarkana on Sept. 18, 1939, the daughter of Joseph and Erna (Langner) Crenshaw. She is survived by daughter, Lisa Knight and husband, Scott, of Woodstock, GA; grandchildren, Patrick and Allison Knight; sister, Marsha Crenshaw Ricottilli and other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Charles L. Henderson. A memorial service will be held on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Elmont Vyvial

Elmont Vyvial, 81, of La Grange died Jan. 21, 2015 in Austin. He was born on May 31, 1933 in Ganado to Frank Joseph Vyvial and Annie Fojt. He married Georgia Polasek Pelech on Aug. 6, 1988 in Manvel. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hostyn, lifetime member of VFW 5254 and VFW 5400, Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center, Fayette County Czech Heritage Society, PLCTM, P.O.L.K. of A of Texas, SPJST Lodge 172, a d  an associate member of the KJT. He worked 40 years at AMOCO Refinery. He was also a member of the Galveston Czech Heritage Singers, SPJST Lodge 88 Choral Group, Fayette County Czech Singers and the church choir. He is survived by his wife, Georgia; one daughter, Leslie Vyvial of Mesa, Ariz.; three step-daughters, Carolyn Surface and husband Lee of La Grange, Janet Clark and husband Matt of

Delvin L. Getschmann

Delvin L. Getschmann died Jan. 9, 2015 in a Houston hospital. Delvin was born on July 11, 1927 in Freyburg on his family farm. He spent 39 years as Chaplain of American Legion  Post 586 in Houston and spent over 60 years as an Usher at his church, Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Houston. Delvin was a WWII veteran who was honored with two medals. He received countless awards and honors for work  with the American Legion, VFW, and DAV. He will be remembered for his great spirit and storytelling. He enjoyed working on his farm in La Grange where he spent most of his time after retiring from Sears after 40 years as a truck driver. Delvin loved working with his cattle. He is survived by his loving wife of over 67 years, Junell Hoehne Getschmann and his two children, Shirley Getschmann Abrego and husband Daniel, Tim Getschmann and his wife Mariann. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Monica Abrego,  Melissa Abrego Zientek and husband Ronnie and Mark Abrego.

Lewis Bertling

Lewis Bertling, 76, of Fayetteville died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015 at St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange. Lewis was born in Cistern on Feb. 26, 1938, the son of George and Ora (Needham) Bertling. He married Ruby Krause on April 4, 1964.
Lewis was a heavy equipment operator and retired after 27 years of service; and after his retirement, he worked for Fritsch Cattle Company for eight years. He was a very hard working man who loved the outdoors, fishing and competing in the barbeque cook-offs. He is survived by his wife, Ruby, of 50 years; daughter, Brenda Schihab and husband, William; four sons: Neal Bertling, Kenneth Bertling, Gary Bertling and wife, Karen; and Ronnie  Bertling all of Fayetteville; brother,

Thomas D. Brown

A memorial service for Thomas D. Brown of Schulenburg will take place Saturday, Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. from the St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Schulenburg. He died on Jan. 16, 2015. He was 83 years old. Brown was a long-time business and civic leader in Schulenburg. Many will remember him as the last owner and operator of the Schulenburg Cotton Compress.

Clara (Tietjen) Wessels

Clara (Tietjen) Wessels, 94, of La Grange died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015 at Monument Hill Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in La Grange. Clara was born in Rutersville  on April 19, 1920, the daughter of Elo and Lydia (Wied) Tietjen. She married Ed Wessels on March 3, 1946 in Rutersville. Clara and Ed owned and operated Tietjen’s Store in Rutersville  for over 40 years. Clara was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Rutersville, Altar Guild, American Legion Auxiliary, Hermann Sons Lodge and a charter member of the VFW  Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing dominos and dancing. Ed and Clara both belonged to the Swiss Alp  dance club.
