Francisco Medina

Francisco Medina, 86, of Flatonia, died May 16, 2015He was born Sept. 18, 1928 in Ballinger to the late Josepas Medina and Carmen Gonzales Medina. Frank worked and retired from Smith Farms after 35 years of service. Frank was an Army veteran in the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Silver Star. He also served as a sheriff for the city of Flatonia during 1971-1972 and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Amy Medina; four sons, Frank Medina, Jesse Medina and wife Aurora, Richard Medina, Paul Medina; one daughter, Molly Rojas and husband Ray; three step sons, Armando Gonzales, Ernesto Gonzales and wife Norma and Narciso Gonzales and wife Elizabeth; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Maria De Jesus Medina and one sister-in-law, Delia Medina.

Erwin Vernon Bayer

Erwin Vernon Bayer, 78, of La Grange, died Thursday, June 11, 2015 at St. David’s Medical
Center in Austin. Erwin was born in Carmine on Aug. 5, 1936, the son of Ernest and Alvina (Schulz) Bayer. He attended Burton School and was confirmed at St. John Evangelical Church in Burton. In 1959, Erwin volunteered and served his country in the U.S. Army. He did his basic training in Ft. Benning, Georgia and served in Korea in the Motor Pool. Erwin served active and reserve duty until August31, 1965, when he was honorably discharged. Erwin married Delores Albers on Jan. 26, 1963, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top. They moved to Houston where Erwin worked as a Mechanic at Houston Lighting and Power and they were blessed with two sons and one daughter. His desire to move back to his hometown landed them in La Grange in 1977 where he worked for LCRA at Fayette Power Plant for 19 years.

Stewart

Terrance “Terry” E. Stewart, 89, died on Sunday, May 31, 2015 in Bryan. Terry was born in Valley City, North Dakota on Dec. 18, 1925. He was married to Phyllis Howard until her death. Terry served in the navy in the Korean War. He was a successful district manager in Houston, employed by Nation Cash Register (NCR) before retiring to the farm in La Grange in 1980. He was dearly loved by many friends and family and will be greatly missed. He is survived by son TC Stewart; daughter Khris Thurmond; son-in-law Frank Thurmond; granddaughter Autumn McEwen, her husband Justin McEwen; great-grandson, Hoyt McEwen, great-granddaughters Campbell and Charlie May McEwen; grandson Jake Thurmond and his wife Rachel Thurmond. A memorial will be held at the farm June 20 at 2 p.m. for friends and family. Expression of condolence can be made at ww.callawayjones.com.

Littlefield

Marvin “Buddy” Littlefield, 65, of Flatonia, died Wednesday, April 15, 2015. Buddy was born in McKinney, Texas on Feb. 15, 1950, the son of Opel William and Ruth (Creel) Littlefield. Buddy served in the U.S. Army, was a member of the Flatonia Volunteer Fire Department and Vietnam Veterans of America. He is survived by daughter, April Pascoe and husband, David, of Flatonia; step-daughter, Sandra Gonzales of Waco; step-son, Donnie Dossey, Jr. and wife, Loretta, of Kingston, Okla.; sister, Verlyn Palmer of the Woodlands; granddaughter, Cheyenne Pascoe; six stepgrandchildren; and numerous extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Flora Barnett; and step-son, Jesse Dossey. Memorial services will be held on June 13, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Brenda’s Celebration Destination, 1143 Highway 90 in Flatonia. Fairy Jo (Tullis) Cox

Fairy Jo (Tullis) Cox, 71, of La Grange, died Friday, June 5, 2015. Fairy was born in Lima, Ohio on May 21, 1944, the daughter of William and Frances (Mowhorr) Tullis. She married George Cox in Lima, Ohio. Fairy enjoyed going to church, reading, crocheting, and walking her dogs. She was a giver and loved to help all those around her. She is survived by her son, Kelvin Cox and wife, Lisa, and her daughter, April Caldwell, all of La Grange; two sisters and a loving family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; and a sister.

James Henry Watkins

James Henry Watkins, 88, of La Grange, died Tuesday, June 2, 2015, in La Grange. James was born on June 17, 1926 in Millwood, the son of Henry and Cora Watkins. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Henderson for over 30 years and served as a Deacon. He was a mortician and Funeral Director for more than 50 years serving in Texas at Longview, Henderson, Paris and Austin. He was a gentle and caring man throughout his whole life. A Christian that practiced what was preached and was held in utmost respect. He showed this as an outstanding Sunday school teacher. Mr. Watkins served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946 on the Pacific Theatre and received several honorable medals in WWII. He was a volunteer of the American Cancer Society and active in many service organizations such as Lions Club and Rotary. He was a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary International and was Henderson’s Outstanding Young Man in 1960.

Lucille B. (Bertrand) Rideout

Lucille B. (Bertrand) Rideout, 103, of La Grange, died Monday, June 1, 2015. Lucille was born in Bourbonnais, Ill. on April 20, 1912, the daughter of Gordan and Mary (Audette) Bertrand. She married Jay Rideout in San Francisco, Calif. on Dec. 20, 1949. Lucille worked as a secretary. She also loved to farm. She was a wonderful homemaker and a very accomplished seamstress. She always made beautiful clothing. Lucille was one of the oldest members of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Annunciation No. 1962; a Lifetime Member Award recipient of St. Mark’s Hospital Auxiliary; also a La Grange Garden Club and Texas Women’s League member. She is survived by two nephews: Edward DeMarah and wife, Amy, of Illinois and Robert DeMarah of Washington; friends, Melvin and Carol Austin and Tim and Susan Pylant all of La Grange. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jay; two brothers: Leo and Philbert Bertrand; sister, Muriel DeMarah; and nephew, Arthur DeMarah.

Harold Dean Hutson

Harold Dean Hutson, 83, of Blue, Texas, died Monday, June 1, 2015 at his residence. Harold was born on Oct. 27, 1931 in Blue, Texas to Forrest Munson Hutson and Bertha Lee (Oppelt) Hutson. He married Ruth Fenwick on Sept. 30, 1960 in Ballinger. Harold was a hardworking, honest man. He lived for his family. He cherished every moment he had with his wife, daughters and grandkids. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Lexington. Pastor Chris Bruce officiated. Burial immediately followed in the Burns cemetery. Harold is survived by his wife, Ruth Hutson of Blue; four daughters, Debbie Nuckols, Judy Griffith, Deana Read and husband Dale, and Lisa Simpson and husband Troy; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren;one brother, Guy Hutson and wife Carolyn; sisters in law, Kathy Spencer and husband Richard, and Evon Hutson; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Bernice Beisert Winkler

Bernice Beisert Winkler, 88, of Giddings, died Sunday, May 31, 2015 at her home in Giddings. Bernice was born on Oct. 4, 1926 in Loebau, Texas to Oscar Herman Beisert and Amanda
Alma (Kasper) Beisert. She was baptized on Oct. 17, 1926 by Rev. C. Durow at Christ Lutheran
Church in Loebau. She attended the Lutheran school and was confirmed on April 2, 1939 by Rev. H.O. Hartfield. She was united in marriage to Erwin Winkler on July 18, 1948 at Christ Lutheran Church by Rev. H.O. Hartfield. Their marriage was blessed by four children – Helen, Nora, Alice and Daniel. She was a hard worker being a dedicated wife and a stay at home mom. She enjoyed cooking and sewing for her family. She loved working in the garden, canning and fishing. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings. The Rev. Robert Tiner officiated. Burial was held in the Giddings City Cemetery.

Jose M. Flores

Jose M. Flores, 96, of La Grange, died Thursday, May 28, 2015 at his home in La Grange. Jose was born in Mexico on Nov. 25, 1918, the son of Jose Flores and Paz (Ramirez) Flores. He married his beloved wife on Aug. 20, 1954 in Mexico. Jose was a Horse Trainer and Rancher for 50 years and retired in 1995. He loved fishing and working with cattle. He was a hardworking man and wonderful husband and father. Jose was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange. Visitation was held on Saturday, May 30, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home in La Grange. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley, 1048 N. Jefferson St., La Grange, Texas, 78945. Family and friends can view and sign the guestbook online at www.lagrangefunerals.com.
