Robert E. “Bob” Schuhmann, 90, of La Grange, died Sunday, May 3, 2015. Robert was born in El Paso on Sept. 27, 1924, the son of Ewald W. and Nellie Victorine (Houston) Schuhmann. Robert married Verna Ross Cook on Dec. 5, 1953. They met in Houston after he left the University of Texas. Verna was a career girl for American Airlines. They retired to a little farm in Fayette County in 1991. They had a loving and happy life together, and had one daughter, Diane, who graduated from Texas A&M and went on to marry a fellow Aggie, Wendell Wood. Robert attended Lamar High School in Houston and then attended Texas A&M in 1941. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1944. During World War II, he served in the 5th Air Force in the western Pacific area in B-24 heavy bombers, receiving battle stars for: New Guinea, Borneo, China, Mindoro, Luzon, and Ie Shima at Okinawa.
