Lillian J. (Shimek) Krenek, 89, of Fayetteville died Monday, April 13, 2015. Lillian was born in Fayetteville on March 9, 1926, the daughter of John and Otellia (Wychopen) Shimek. She married LeRoy Krenek on Nov. 22, 1953 in Fayetteville.

Connie Maffei

Connie Maffei, 88, of Round Top, died Friday, March 20, 2015, in St. David’s Hospital in Austin. Born on Sept. 4, 1926, in
Port Washington, N.Y., she was the daughter of Angelo and Susan D’Agostino, the third of five children. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Marius Maffei, her brother Gerald D’Agostino and sisters Rose Mattocks and Susan Paukert. She is survived by her eldest daughter Angela Maffei Allen and her husband Stephen Allen, her son Robert Maffei, her youngest daughter Julie Maffei, her sister Anne Pierce, as well as numerous nieces and nephews around the country. Connie graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Galveston in 1949. She dedicated her life to nursing and worked as a private duty nurse the majority of her 44 year career. In 1987, after retiring, she enjoyed being with her family, traveling, Italian food, opera, theatre, film and reading books. A reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday,

Nancy Louise (Sowa) Koenig

Nancy Louise (Sowa) Koenig, two time survivor of Cancer, lost her third battle with this terrible disease on April 10, 2015 at the age of 79. Nancy passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her adoring family. Nancy was born in Corpus
Christi on Dec. 11, 1935 to George Alexander Sowa and Mary Magdalene (Gower) Sowa. She attended the Incarnate 
Word Academy, a highly respected Catholic school, in Corpus Christi. Nancy was a loyal Secretary for the American General Life and Accident Insurance Company in Corpus Christi, as well as the Texas Insurance Commission in Austin.

Edwin “Eddie” George Rauch Jr.,

Edwin “Eddie” George Rauch Jr., 65 of Nechantiz, died Saturday, April 11, 2015 in La Grange after a battle with cancer.
Eddie was born on Feb. 14, 1950 to the late Edwin Rauch Sr. and Martha F. Sevcik Rauch. He married Mary Drescher on
July 31, 1971. He graduated from Round Top Carmine High School in 1968. Eddie retired from Lower Colorado River Authority on Sept. 28, 2006, after having completed more than 27 years of service at the Fayette Power Project, where he exhibited a variety of skills and was mostly valued as an overhead crane operator. Before Eddie went to work for the  Fayette project he worked for Texas Timbers Cabinet Company, Carl Thumber General Construction, Frenzel Repair Shop, and Hurricane Steel. He also did farming, raised cattle, and made hay. Eddie was a member of Waldeck Lutheran Church, where he served on the Church Council, was part of the Bar-B-Que crew for fundraisers, and helped at the

Martin Henry Menzel

Martin Henry Menzel, 97, of Serbin died Thursday, April 9, 2015 at the Giddings Residence and Rehabilitation Center.
Martin Henry Menzel was born on Feb. 1, 1918 in Serbin, to Gerhard and Martha (Wukasch) Menzel. He was baptized
on Feb. 9, 1918 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin by Rev. H.T. Kilian and confirmed on March 20, 1932 also at St.
Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin by Rev. Herman Schmidt. He served in the Army during WWII and received a Purple
Heart. Martin was united in marriage with Gliceria “Cherry” Villaluz on Feb. 1, 1985 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin by Rev. Paul Hartfield. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin with Rev. John Schmidt officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Giddings American Legion York Post 276, immediately followed in the church cemetery.

Raywood “Ray” Edwin Ebner

Raywood “Ray” Edwin Ebner, 72 of Ledbetter, died the morning of Wednesday, April 8, 2015. Ray was born on
Fevb. 26, 1943 in La Grange to Edwin Ernst Ebner and Edna Mae (Schultz) Ebner. He was baptized and confirmed at Waldeck Lutheran Church in Waldeck and graduated from Round Top- Carmine High School. He was united in marriage to Ginger Faye Sump on May 1, 1965 in La Grange. Ray had worked at Alcoa, Southern Pacific Railroad and worked as an oilfield pumper for many years. Most recently he had been employed as a security guard with the Giddings State School. He and Ginger also owned and operated Ebner’s Grocery in Giddings for several years. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings with Pastor Pat Herlitz officiating. Burial immediately followed in the Ledbetter Cemetery.
