Hilton Ray Karisch, 84, of Winchester, died peacefully at his residence on Saturday, July 5, 2014. Hilton was born in Winchester on May 11, 1930, the son of Paul Herman and Hattie (Franke) Karisch. He married Gladys Prellop on Sept. 1,
1956 at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Winchester. Hilton served in the U.S. Army Air Force during the Korean War. He worked as a Scheduler/Expeditor for Reed Tool Manufacturing for 35 years. Hilton also worked at the Houston strodome for 25 years. He was an active rancher for 25 years and enjoyed watching and caring for his new born calves. Hilton was a supporter of the Winchester Volunteer Fire Dept. and volunteered at their annual fundraiser. He worked at the St. Michael’s Lutheran Church annual picnic each year. Hilton loved to hunt and fish and was a baseball enthusiast. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. He is survived by his wife, Gladys, of 57 years; two sons:
David Karisch and wife, Anna; and Wayne Karisch, all of Winchester; daughter, Cindy Barcelo of Houston; brother, Paul
Karisch and wife, June Dale, of Houston; nine grandchildren: John Barcelo and wife, Jenna, Jeremy and Kristen Barcelo;
Zachry, Cody, Bailey, Trey, Travis and Kaitlynn Karisch; two great-grandchildren: Ryan Wood and Colt Barcelo; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and son-in-law, Tommy Barcelo. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, located at 700 Frio St., Winchester, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2014. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley, 1048 N. Jefferson, La Grange, Texas 78945.
