Remembering a Great Man

By REGINA KEILERS

Apartheid. I first became aware of this term while in college. I had a professor who, in teaching us about it, said that to  understand the meaning of the word, you only had to look at the pronunciation. She pronounced it apart-hate, explaining to us that it meant to keep separate (apart) because of hate. I knew historically that we as a country have the shame of treating people of different races badly, but I was appalled that it still could be going on. I grew up after segregation had become illegal. I have friends of all races. They are my friends first, their race is just something about them that makes them unique.
